The English Teachers / Year 5 students / Year 6 students
In order to celebrate the European Day of Languages on 26th September the English teachers prepared some activities for their students.
Year five students were asked to write down a word in Portuguese and translate it into different languages (English, Spanish, French, Greek, Turkish, Polish, Italian, German and Ukrainian). The students wrote their words on coloured cards, which were then displayed in the playground.
Year six students were challenged to give their opinion on the importance of learning a foreign language. These were presented in the form of a Powerpoint and displayed on the screens around the school (playground, school canteen, school bar, school entrance…)
The students and the teachers had a lot of fun planning and preparing this activity because it motivated the school community to learn a new language! Come and see our little translators’ work!
The English Teachers (2nd Cycle)
Year 5 students
This was the first time I participated in European Language Day activities. My teacher asked me to research a Polish word, and my classmates had different words. It was a lot of fun! When we researched our words, we drew a picture of the word. Do you know how to say “dog” in Polish? I do. If you want to know how to say it, go and have a look at our work.
Alyssa Costa – 5A
On the European Day of Languages, 5A had to translate some words from English to Polish and write them on a card. Then we did some drawings on the cards and hung them up in the playground. This activity helped everybody to learn a little bit about all European Languages, in our case Polish.

I really liked the European Day of Languages. It was a wonderful day where all the year 5 students learned a word in a different language.
My class had to write a word in English, Portuguese and Polish on a card, we then illustrated it. I loved doing this activity.

I really liked the Project European Day of Languages. It was fun learning words in different languages and writing in different alphabets. I had a great time doing the project.

It was really fun doing our project because we learned lots of things in German and we all learned new words.
The European Day of Languages is really important.
On this day we celebrated all of the European Languages and our own language too!

I liked this activity very much. My class wrote words in Italian, Portuguese and English on small cards then we hung them with the flags from the countries.
It was very fun.

We had a chance to learn how to say some Spanish words. I liked writing and drawing my word!

The activity was very interesting because we learned some French words. We’ve got some French classmates in our class and they helped us!

It was a fun activity and it was really easy for me. My class had to search for words in French. I am from France so my classmates asked me to help them writing the words. I think my classmates learned a bit of French!

It was the first time that we participated in this activity and we loved it. We had a lot of fun checking our classmates’ work. We believe our classmates want to learn French now! We are from France and we enjoyed the words chosen for our class.

It was my first time participating in a European Language Day activity. I drew and coloured my card and learned some French words. Did you know that the word “friend” means “ami” in French?

I loved to see the students’ PowerPoint presentation about the different countries in Europe and I learned a lot! I learned that croissants and baguettes are not from France. In fact, they are from Turkey!
