Sylvia Alexandra Costa Did you know that Christmas crackers are an important British Christmas tradition? On Christmas day, in most houses, you’ll find roast turkey, roast potatoes, vegetables…, and Christmas crackers! The students in 4A were very curious about these special things so, we explored what goes inside them: a small surprise, a terrible joke and paper crowns. In fact, most family photos will have people of all ages wearing the colourful paper crowns while they enjoy their meal. We talked about how they are used: two people pull the cracker and whoever gets the biggest part, gets what’s inside. Then, we investigated what they looked like: long, colourful and shiny. Suddenly, teacher Sandra Trindade exclaimed “let’s make our own!” which was met with excited cheers from the students! So, we made our own! Each student brought in a small gift and slipped it inside their cracker. They decorated their roll and tied it at the ends with pretty ribbon. The students were beaming with pride with their beautiful crackers. The next day, teacher Sandra distributed the crackers and the students had fun pulling them apart and seeing what they had!
